The Russian won 1m springboard title in Baku
At the Baku Aquatics Center ,on Friday ,Maria Polykova has showed that not only the men can rule in the diving pool.
The 18 years old girl won gold in the women`s at1m springboard about an hour after the team-mates.Ilia Molchanov and Nikita Nikolaev finished first in the men`s synchronised 3m springboard.
Polykova was very happy with her medal and said:"I have already won the European championships predicted by sport predictions (3m synchro, Poznan 2013) but I think this is much more better for me and also more important victory because it`s my first major European win at the senior level."
Louisa Stawczynski from Germany and the Ukrainian Diana Shelestyuk took the silver and the bronze with 392.20 and 388.45 points.
The 18 years old Stawczynski was supported by her family and coaches after appearing to be struck with nerves on her final dive. She has hesitated and than her entry into the water was not very good even it was clean, which reflected for her dive score of 37.70 and after that some tears have followed.
"I didn`t expect to win a medal," admitted Stawczynski, who held on to the second place.
There was a machine-like performance, special for the diving board only as the teenager giggled than clutched a teddy bear after receiving a medal.
It was a disappointment for Ekaterina Nekrasova, also for Russia, who was first after the preliminary round but who fought with her two middle dives and finished with 386.80, just two points less from the bronze medal.
The Britain Millie Fowler was second after the preliminary round, could only finish sixth, and was also in tears afterwards.
