The organizers of the football super leagues discussed the format of the competition. Recall that initially 12 clubs were included in the Super League project. Only Real and Barcelona did not come out of it.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the tournament will be divided into three divisions. 16 clubs from the TOP-5 leagues, as well as strong teams from the Netherlands and Portugal, should take part in the highest (star).
In the second (gold) - another 16, in the third (blue) - 32 teams, 20 of which will fly out every year.
The organizers of the Super Leagues are discussing other changes. Many clubs have expressed interest in the champions of the strongest leagues, even if they are not historically large, received a place in the highest division.
The duration of the competition can also be changed. Now at the group round of the Star Division, two groups of 8 teams are planned, which will play 14 matches in two circles.
After that, the top 4 will be played from each group in quarterfinals and semifinals of two matches and the finale consisting of one game. In total, the champion will have to play 19 matches, while in the current Champions League format - a maximum of 17.
The possibility of reducing competitions is being considered up to 17 or 18 matches. Games will always be held in the middle of the week. Thus, national championships will continue to be held on weekends.
The starts of the competition remain the same: either September 2025, or September 2026.
